UNITED KINGDOM: As part of a segment into the introduction of a licensing system for private investigators, lawyer Kate McMahon claimed that her firm relies on private investigators for "almost every case", whilst stressing that she ensures all information is gained lawfully and within best practice guidelines.

Ms McMahon went on to describe the role filled by private investigators in the UK, equating their work gathering evidence to that of police investigations and of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

We note that this news article dates back to 2013, when the Conservative-Liberal democrat coalition government introduced proposals to license private investigators working in the UK. These proposals ultimately did not materialize and British private investigators remain unlicensed to this day.
